PrEP Website Represented at PK Workshop 2026

First-year PhD student and editorial assistant Daniel Seddon has been in Montreal this week, presenting his research on the readability of the PrEP Drug Interaction Checker at the 27th International Workshop on Clinical Pharmacology of HIV, Hepatitis, and Other Antiviral Drugs 2026.

The PrEP website aims to be easy-to-understand information for users of PrEP, unlike the HIV website, which is aimed at clinicians and prescribers and contains a lot of complicated pharmacokinetic information. The beta version of the PrEP website was published in April. Since then, Daniel has been working to analyse the readability of the website, to give an average reading age for green, amber, and red interaction summaries. Daniel's analysis found that 96% of the PrEP website exceeded the UK national reading age average of 11 years. Interestingly, sentence length, sentence count, and word length failed to predict how well a summary would score on readability. This study highlights the improvements needed to make the PrEP website more accessible to users, and Daniel will continue to research the best way forward with this, balancing the need for accurate clinical information with need for it to be simple and easy to understand.
